NEIS Board Member, Linda Lewison today told the Canadian Nuclear Review Board: “We do not support the Deep Geologic Repository proposal for a Deep Underground Dump. We need to “dump the Dump” and protect the Great Lakes.”
Lewison presented her testimony by phone during the 10th day of the hearings before the Canadian Nuclear Review Board, which will rule on whether or not Ontario Power Generation will be permitted to build a waste dump for low and intermediate radioactive wastes at its site in Kincardine, Ontario — less than a quarter mile from the shores of Lake Huron. Scores of people from Canada and the US have been presenting comments opposing the creation of the proposed dump on the shores of the Great Lakes — the irreplaceable drinking water supply for over 30 million people.
