We thank member Dr. Norma Field for passing along a link to an incredible interview with Bo Jacobs, a research associate professor at the Hiroshima Peace Institute. The interview is conducted by Annie Gaffney of ABC Brisbane. The situation at Fukushima is increasingly dire, and not just on the technological and engineering front. The disaster has served to destabilize government, fragment large segments of the population and society, and is leading to an eventual abandonment of the Fukushima region — no small consequence for a nation with little land to spare. This interview should be required listening for any county, state or nation contemplating a new nuclear reactor, or relicensing an old one.
Bear in mind that Exelon Corporation has just this past summer begun the application for the relicensing of the Byron and Braidwood nuclear reactors in Illinois for an additional 20 years past their current license expiration. NEIS is already weighing in on this application process.
